Cesar Bardoux

Agarose-2, 2023

Agarose is a natural polymer derived from marine red algae which allows molecular biology to visualize DNA invisible to the naked eye. In this monumental diptych, César Bardoux explores this fascinating material as a new medium for scientific writing linking organic matter and high technology. Agarose, which cannot exist without water, embodies the tension between the moving and the fixed, a material metaphor for the constant transformation of living systems. Created in 3D before being frozen in oil paint and sand on canvas, this composition evokes the memory of water and oscillates between liquid, solid and gaseous states, crossed by translucent strata and electrical impulses. A hybrid materiality seeking to make the invisible visible, a bridge between microscopic and cosmic dimensions.
