Ravings captures the intensity of altered states of consciousness and unfiltered expression. This powerful 165x220cm work demonstrates Vasmoulakis' interest in the margins of human experience and unconventional modes of perception. The composition evokes both creative delirium and meditative trance, reflecting the influence of psychedelia and spiritual practices on the Greek artist's work. The surface, worked with oil and beeswax, has an almost hallucinatory quality, oscillating between suggested figuration and pure abstraction. Trained at the art schools of Athens and Prague, Vasmoulakis draws on an extensive cultural repertoire, from urban subcultures to esoteric traditions, to create a unique visual language.
