This 2025 work furthers Ara Thorose's exploration of the painterly possibilities of polyethylene, developing an increasingly sophisticated approach to color, texture, and composition with this unconventional material. The dimensions of 76.2 × 101.6cm create a formal framework that allows for complex compositions while maintaining consistency with the other works in the series. The substantial depth of 5cm amplifies the object quality of the piece, positioning it somewhere between relief and traditional flat painting. This spatial ambiguity reflects Thorose's broader interests in the liminal zones between artistic categories and the productive hybridizations that result. The polyethylene surface interacts with ambient light in ways that change the appearance of the work depending on the time of day and lighting conditions, introducing a temporal and performative element to the viewing experience.
Manufacturing time: 10-12 week(s)
Each piece is handcrafted using natural materials, giving it its own distinct character. Due to the handmade nature, slight variations in color, texture, and finish may occur from piece to piece. These variations are inherent to the artisan process and add to the uniqueness of each creation.
