Baiji Dolphin by Leo Orta is a poignant sculpture which is part of a process of raising awareness of the fragility of the marine world and the disappearance of emblematic species. Designed in 2023, this work takes its name from the Chinese dolphin, tragically declared extinct in the early 2000s, a poignant symbol of the impact of human activity on biodiversity. Leo Orta expresses through this sculpture his fascination with aquatic life and his commitment to environmental protection. “I want my works to be vectors of emotions and questions about our relationship with the living world,” explains Leo Orta, emphasizing the importance of memory and transmission in his artistic approach. Made of clay, then painted a deep blue evoking the ocean depths, Baiji Dolphin is the result of meticulous artisanal work.
