Sculptural Vase
Sculptural Vase transcends the utilitarian function of the vase to become an autonomous sculptural work. This 2021 piece (46cm high) in stoneware with slip and interior glaze combines aesthetics and functionality. The imposing height gives the work a vertical presence that draws the eye, while the hand-mounted organic form evokes abstract natural elements. The slip creates a matte, textured exterior surface that contrasts with the glossy glaze of the interior, revealing the duality between the exterior appearance and the contained interior space. This unique piece, which cannot be ordered to measure, testifies to Hanna Heino's approach which refuses mass production in favor of the singularity of each creation. Sculptural Vase can accommodate floral arrangements or exist as pure sculpture.
