Swan’s Pirouette

Swan's Pirouette is a wall relief that captures the graceful movement of dance through ceramic. This 2024 work (37x20x6cm) in stoneware with glaze and metallic luster consists of two pieces that together create a choreographic composition. The shallow depth (6cm) allows harmonious integration into the wall while creating sufficient relief for expressive shadow play. The metallic chandelier adds a luminous dimension which seems to animate the swan's pirouette, capturing a moment of movement in the still material. Hanna Heino's technique allows the fluidity of movement to be translated into the rigidity of the ceramic, creating a fascinating visual tension. Each element of this wall composition is individually shaped and then assembled to form a coherent work that transforms the wall into a ballet stage.
